Ilse Philips designs luxurious exciting handwoven textiles. Beautiful handcrafted textiles, made from yarns that are limited, unique, durable or one of a kind and because of that results in making each piece an original work of art. Some of my original work can be found on my Instagram page. You can follow me to stay tuned about my work, fun projects and original work of arts.
The materials I use are carefully selected to get the best quality, fantastic feel, colour and weight. I try to buy my yarns in locally situated stores, but also buy them abroad. My most favourite countries to buy yarn are located in Norway and small local (sometimes second hand) shops in Sweden.
The products have unique designs and are hand crafted. Hand crafted means, that the products are handmade and certainly unique. Using natural materials gives beautiful natural irregularities which can be found in every piece. The patterns and yarns vary to give every piece its unique identity and character.
During the creative process of weaving, natural irregularities in size, color, design variations and placement of designs are inherent to the process, and enhance the individuality of each item, and give it character.
Before I sell any of my textiles, I wet-finish them. This means that I carefully wash the woven cloth so the yarn can ‘sett’. This means the threads move around to find their ‘place’ and connect with the other yarns. You can love and cherish your luxurious exciting handwoven textiles from day one as they are pre-washed at 30 degrees and air-dried.
